Skyfall
Dir:
Sam Mendes 2012
Skyfall
is the latest entry in the long running James Bond Franchise. Traditionally these
types of films are known for being campy, but fun. The appeal is usually the
larger than life settings, villains, and extremely unrealistic action set pieces
basically the audience gets to watch James Bond survive a series of missions
that would easily kill a normal man many times over.
However,
this is not your traditional Bond film, this is something new. Don’t get me
wrong now, there is still plenty of fun settings, a diabolical villain, and
huge action set pieces but this particular movie took it upon it’s to become
dark, real. For the first time we get to see James Bond as a person and not just
as a good looking super spy in a tux.
The
actors in this film are all marvelous featuring both new faces as well as old
ones that fans have come to know and love. Daniel Craig stars as James Bond
this third film in the series and it is really some of his best work, in this
series as well in any of his other films. Judi Dench Returns as M for the
seventh consecutive bond film. Javier
Bardem is as menacing and sinister as any Bond villain has ever been and his performance
is brilliant, while he is clearly the villain there are parts of the film where
the audience actually feels bad for him this impressed me.
This
wasn’t just a great James Bond film; I actually think this film works as a stand-alone
piece. The script is incredibly well written with intricate plot lines seamlessly
weaving together. The cinematography is gorgeous, this is a movie made For IMAX
and HD viewings featuring a lot of long shots of cities and interesting
landscapes as well as polished action set pieces. Overall I would suggest this
film to anyone.
